There are multiple situations in which a sperm analysis may be recommended:
When uncertain about sperm quality before attempting to conceive or expand the family.
When curious about one's sperm quality.
Before undergoing treatments that may impact fertility or sperm quality.
When trying to conceive with a partner without success and investigating whether sperm quality may be a factor.
When experiencing sexual performance issues such as erectile dysfunction or ejaculation difficulties.
No.
According to a groundbreaking 2017 study that made global headlines, sperm concentration in men has declined by over 50% between 1973 and 2011. The scientific community agrees that this decline is ongoing, and as of today (2023), there is still no clear understanding of why this is happening. Although more research is needed, it is well-known that each man can influence his decline in sperm concentration through lifestyle changes.
Factors such as diet, location, exercise, and smoking can impact this decline. For more information on lifestyle factors
The test's accuracy, both in sensitivity and specificity, is between 95-97.5%.
How should I prepare for my sperm sample?
To provide the best possible sperm sample, we recommend the following:
Abstain from ejaculation for 2-3 days before providing the sperm sample.
Ensure that you have ejaculated within the past 5-7 days before providing the sperm sample.
NOTE: To provide the optimal sperm sample, involves abstaining from all forms of sexual activity and ejaculation, including masturbation.
Aside from the individual time it takes for ejaculation, the test can be completed in approximately 20 minutes.
You will receive a preliminary result within 60 minutes after the test is completed. Subsequently, you will receive a definitive answer based on the embryologists' analysis within 24 hours.
